Interior of church at St. Croix, Quimperle is a 1891 by Somers Clarke, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This drawing shows the inside of an old church. Stone arches line the ceiling, and tall windows let in dim light. Wooden chairs are scattered around, some stacked. A few people stand near the front, and a priest or monk is at the altar. The walls are rough brick, and the floor is stone. The artist focused on the quiet, empty space—no bright colors, just muted tones. The light comes mostly from the windows, making the shadows deep. Want to see more by this artist?
