Pluscarden is a 1906 by David Young Cameron, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This print shows a quiet church set in a dark forest. The building has a simple tower, arched windows, and a small cross at the top. Trees crowd close, their branches heavy and tangled, blocking most of the light. The artist used deep shadows and thin lines to make the scene feel mysterious. The ground looks wet, and a few small figures sit near the church, almost hidden by the gloom. Next, check out chiaroscuro to see how light and shadow create mood in art.
Sir David Young Cameron (28 June 1865 – 16 September 1945) was a Scottish painter and, with greater success, etcher, mostly of townscapes and landscapes in both cases. He was a leading figure in the final decades of the Etching Revival.
