Fantastic Vases is a 1646 ink by Stefano Della Bella, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This drawing shows six fancy vases lined up in a row. Some have handles, some have faces carved into them, and one holds a big plant. The vases look old and detailed, with strange shapes and pictures on them. One vase has a scene painted on its side, while another has a face with leaves for hair. The artist made this using a special printmaking method. The lines are sharp and the whole thing looks like it was drawn by hand. Next, check out etching to see how this kind of print was made.
Stefano della Bella (18 May 1610 – 12 July 1664) was an Italian draughtsman and printmaker known for etchings of a great variety of subjects, including military and court scenes, landscapes, and lively genre scenes.
