About this work

This painting shows a man holding a rectangular object with a grid pattern. He's wearing a long, light-colored tunic and a matching head covering, with a dark scarf around his neck. His right leg is slightly bent, and he's standing on a decorative base with some words on it. The man is standing in front of a wall with a patterned wallpaper. There's a dark object behind him on the left side, but it's hard to make out what it is. The overall atmosphere of the painting is calm and serene. The artist's use of light and shadow adds depth to the painting. If you want to learn more about this style, look up chiaroscuro.
