Portfolio XVI, Plate 570: Acoma Roadway is a 1904 by Edward S. Curtis, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This image shows a rocky, narrow path winding through towering cliffs. Three people walk along it, dressed in long robes and carrying bundles. The ground is uneven, with scattered stones and patches of dirt. The cliffs loom above, casting shadows over the path. Notice how the artist used light and dark to show depth in the rocks and shadows. This makes the scene feel three-dimensional. Look up chiaroscuro to learn more about this lighting technique.
Edward S. Curtis (1868–1952) was an American artist.
