This print shows a tight bouquet of red and white roses in a simple glass vase. The artist used a stone slab to draw the image, then rolled ink over it to print. The paper feels rough under your fingers—the kind artists liked for proofs. Fantin-Latour made many flower studies, but this is a prueba, or trial print. He would carve details then adjust ink until the rose petals looked just right. Small dots and lines give the leaves a soft glow. Try a lithograph by Fantin-Latour, Henri next.
