Endpaper is a 1850 ink by German 19th Century, a Romanticism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This is a sheet of yellow paper covered in tiny dots. Scattered across it are simple shapes—little flowers or leaves—drawn in gold. The gold looks faded, like it’s been handled a lot. The whole thing looks like something you’d slip into a book to protect the pages. That’s actually what it is—it’s called an *endpaper*. People used to put these between book covers to keep them clean. If you like this, look up woodcut next. It’s the printing method that made this.
This artist left only tiny, perfect fragments—endpapers and saints, no bigger than a postcard.
