About this work

This print shows a big group of people in a curved ceiling space. A woman sits in the middle, holding a scroll. Around her are smaller figures—some standing, some climbing stairs, all looking like they’re part of the same scene. The lines are sharp and the shadows are dark, making the shapes pop. The word *Persicha* is written under the seated woman. That’s the name of this scene, called *The Persian Sibyl*. The artist drew it to look like a fresco, but it’s actually a print made by carving into metal. Want to see more like this? Check out engraving.
