Quarts de plafons is a 1650 ink by Jean Lepautre, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This print shows fancy designs on a ceiling. Swirls, leaves, and scrolls fill the space. The lines are dark and sharp, with lots of tiny dots for shading. Two small figures sit in the corners—one looks like a cherub, the other a winged creature. The artist used a method where ink is scratched into metal plates. This makes the lines look crisp and detailed. Check out etching to see how this technique works.
