Floral Designs and Floral Bands

About this work

This painting shows neat rows of flowers and leafy bands. Pinks and yellows pop against green. The bands curve around the edges like frames. Cavenezia packed each bloom with tiny dots. This style was new in the 1700s. Artists were copying nature closer than ever. See the dots? That’s a close look at how paint can build up. It’s called impasto.
