About this work

This watercolor shows a busy street in a European town. Tall, half-timbered buildings line both sides, their windows and signs crowded together. People walk along the snow-covered ground, some carrying baskets or talking in groups. A church spire rises in the background, and a few shops have signs in German. The artist used loose, quick brushstrokes to capture the light and movement. The buildings look old, with dark wood frames against light walls.
