This watercolor shows a busy street in a European town. Tall, half-timbered buildings line both sides, their windows and signs crowded together. People walk along the snow-covered ground, some carrying baskets or talking in groups. A church spire rises in the background, and a few shops have signs in German. The artist used loose, quick brushstrokes to capture the light and movement. The buildings look old, with dark wood frames against light walls. Snow blankets the street, but the scene feels lively, not quiet. Check out the Victoria and Albert Museum to see this painting in person.
