The Last Judgment is a 1549 ink by Augustin Hirschvogel, a Renaissance work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This black-and-white print shows a chaotic crowd of people and animals. Some figures are reaching up, others are falling. A few look scared, one holds a lamb. The sky is full of swirling lines and small shapes, like flames or wind. The text at the bottom is in German—it’s a Bible quote about judgment. The artist used sharp lines to create drama and movement. Want to see more? Check out the technique: etching.
