Theatrum mulierum: Title Page is a 1643 ink by Wenceslaus Hollar, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This etching shows a row of ten women in fancy dresses, each labeled with a name like "Anna" or "Maria." Their dresses have tight bodices and wide skirts, with lace collars and sleeves. The lines are sharp and crisp, like a fine drawing cut into metal. It’s a fashion plate from 1643. These prints were popular back then—like today’s magazines, but for clothing trends. Women used them to copy the latest styles for their own wardrobes. Check out the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
