The Mysteries of the Passion: The Annunciation is a 1631 by Jacques Callot, a Baroque work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This print shows a dramatic scene inside a church. On the left, an angel with wings and a long robe stands on clouds, holding an open book. On the right, a robed figure kneels at an altar, looking down. Sunlight streams in through a window, lighting up the scene. The angel’s face is calm but intense, while the kneeling figure looks pious. The light creates strong contrasts between dark and light areas. Jacques Callot was a baroque printmaker and draftsman from the Duchy of Lorraine.
