L'Art Ancien Zurich: View in the Church of the Franciscans, Barfüsser-Kirke is a 1681 by Johan Ulrich Krauss, a Baroque work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This drawing shows a church under repair, with scaffolding everywhere. Wooden beams and broken stone litter the floor. Workers in the distance climb ladders, and a tall arched window lets in light. The walls have carvings and a few standing chairs. The artist focused on how light and shadow make the scene feel real. The text at the bottom explains this was a church in Zurich, but the drawing itself looks more like a sketch than a finished painting. Look up chiaroscuro to see how artists use light and dark to create depth.
Johan Ulrich Krauss (1655–1719) was a German artist.
