About this work

This print shows a busy garden scene with people relaxing under a wooden pavilion. Trees and plants fill the background, while a small pond and bridge appear in the distance. Two figures stand near the fence on the right, and others lounge on mats inside the pavilion. Notice how the artist used simple lines and flat colors to create depth. The rooftops and trees look almost like cut-out shapes, but the shadows add a sense of space. Look up cross-hatching next to see how artists build shadows with lines.
