Christ Church, Summer is a 1990 by Leon Kossoff, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This is a print by Leon Kossoff, a British figurative artist. It shows a scene from Christ Church in London. Kossoff made this print between 1989 and 1992 using etching. Kossoff loved to rework his prints. He often changed things even after printing started. This print started as a copy of an Old Master painting but became its own exploration of line. Look up Kossoff, Leon.
Kossoff’s 1990 etching depicts the façade of Christ Church, Spitalfields, with a group of people moving across the foreground. The print belongs to a series of etchings after Old Masters, in which Kossoff removed color to focus on underlying composition and drawing. Produced with Ann Dowker and Marc Balakjian, the work reflects Kossoff’s practice of reworking proofs to refine the image.
