About this work

Leon Kossoff’s untitled print from the 1980s shows how he carried his love of drawing into the print studio. Like his paintings, his etchings revisit London scenes and figures over and over. He often reworked the same plate, printing many “states” to test each line. This hunt for the right mark kept him at the press long after the first edition was done. Check out the Victoria and Albert Museum where you can see how etching let Kossoff chase perfection.
