This photo shows a terra cotta relief from 1863-64. It’s part of a thymiaterion frieze with bacchanalian masks. Louise Laffon made it during a time when photography was just becoming useful for art study. The Victoria and Albert Museum started collecting photos in 1852. They used them to help students and artists learn. This was a new way to share visual ideas back then. Check out the artist.
