The story of this work

Overview

The Victoria and Albert Museum holds an albumen print by Louise Laffon from 1864, documenting a marble bust of Julia in the Musée Napoléon III (now the Louvre). The photograph was part of a series of 500 works purchased by the museum from Laffon, featuring architecture, sculpture, and decorative arts from the Campana Collection. Laffon’s prints were mounted with a gender-neutral stamp reading “L. Laffon” alongside the studio name “Photographie Lord Byron.” The series served as a visual resource for artists and students within the museum’s collections.
