Bridge at the Mill (Le pont du moulin) is a 1874 ink by Alphonse Legros, a Romanticism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows a small bridge over water. On either side, there are bushes and trees drawn in tight, wavy lines. Behind them, a row of houses with slanted roofs sits on a hill. The artist used a sharp tool to scratch into the metal plate before printing. This left dark lines that look almost like quick pencil strokes. Want to see more?
