About this work

This painting shows a lone person standing on a rocky ledge. Behind them, a waterfall crashes down a cliff into a pool below. Trees and mist fill the valley, and distant hills fade into soft light. The artist used light and shadow to make the waterfall look powerful. The colors are mostly earthy browns and greens, with the water a bright white. Next, check out Romanticism to see how nature was often painted this way.
