This print shows an actor as Selim in a play called *Barbarossa* from 1804. Peltro William Tomkins made it as a portrait of a young performer nicknamed Master Betty. The print is part of the Harry Beard Collection. Betty was famous for playing older roles while still a teenager. Tomkins worked during the Romantic era when artists liked bold emotions and drama.
