Statue of an Amazon is a 1850 by Francesco Piranesi, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This print shows a tall statue of a woman standing with one leg bent. She’s dressed in a short tunic and a draped cloak, holding a spear in her right hand raised above her head. Her left arm rests on her hip, and she wears a belt with a pouch at her side. The statue stands on a pedestal with a small object under her foot. The print’s label mentions this statue is called an *Amazon*—a warrior woman from ancient stories. The artist copied it from an old sculpture, focusing on her strong, simple pose. The print depicts a statue of an Amazon, rendered on paper, accompanied by the inscription *Amazone vestita di finissima Veste succinta legata sotto il petto, &c.* and the title *Choix des Meilleures Statues Antiques*.
