The Virgin Mary with the dead Christ is a 1850 by Francesco Rosaspina, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This painting depicts the Virgin Mary with the dead Christ. The Virgin Mary is shown in a circular frame, standing over the body of Christ, which is laid out on a table. Two angels are positioned on either side of her. In the lower half of the painting, a group of people are gathered around the Virgin Mary and the dead Christ. They appear to be in mourning, with some of them looking up at the Virgin Mary and others gazing down at the body of Christ. The painting features a range of emotions, from the sorrow of the Virgin Mary to the reverence of the people gathered around her. The artist's use of chiaroscuro creates a sense of depth and drama, drawing the viewer's eye to the central figures. To learn more about the artist's techniques, look up chiaroscuro.
