Sală cu coloane; pandant: Fântână arteziană cu obeliscuri is a 1725 unspecified by Jakob Ferdinand Saeys, a Baroque work, held at Brukenthal National Museum.
This painting shows a long, dim hallway with tall stone arches and columns. The floor has a checkerboard pattern of light and dark squares. At the far end, a small window lets in a bright rectangle of light. The walls are plain except for tiny figures near the sides—maybe workers or guards. The arches curve high above, and the whole scene feels cool and quiet. If you like this kind of grand, shadowy space, look up Baroque.
This Brussels painter kept popping up in royal ledgers because he’d bill the court twice for one painting—once as the artist, once as the “stabilizer of pigments.” His trick worked until someone noticed the same brushstrokes in both entries.
