You see a black-and-white print of a giant marble vase. The vase is carved with figures and leaves. Light comes from the left, making shadows on its curves. This isn’t just any vase. It copies a real Roman one in Rome called the Borghese Vase. Artists used prints like this to study details without traveling. Look up Teyler, Johann next. He made this exact engraving in the 1690s.
