The Neighing Horse is a 1691 ink by Johann Teyler, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This is a drawing of a horse standing on a patch of grass. The horse has a light brown coat with darker brown on its legs and tail. Its mane and tail are wavy, and it’s standing with its head slightly turned to the side, mouth open as if neighing. The artist used shading to give the horse’s fur texture. The grass below looks like it was drawn with quick, small lines to show its uneven shape. This is a color etching—a technique that uses ink and acid to create detailed prints.
