About this work

This painting shows strange, tall plants growing in a swampy area. Some have long, curved leaves and white flowers, while others look like curled-up pods. In the background, there’s a hazy mountain range under a soft sky. The text at the bottom says these are "American Bog Plants," which means they grow in wet, marshy places. The artist focused on showing each plant’s details carefully. Next, look up The Cleveland Museum of Art to see more works like this.
