Tōtō Ryōgokubashi natsu keshiki|Panoramic View of Ryōgoku Bridge in the Summer is a 1843 ink by Utagawa (Gountei) Sadahide, a Romanticism work, depicting Boat, held at Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This print shows a busy river packed with boats, all shaped like long, flat barges. On the left, a bridge stretches across, crowded with people and red lanterns. To the right, a wide riverbank is packed with more lanterns, tents, and a giant red sun hanging in the sky. The colors are bright—deep blues for the water, greens for the hills, and bold reds for the lanterns and boats. Notice how the artist used tiny lines to build up shadows and details, especially on the boats and buildings. This makes everything look solid and full of life.
