This painting shows a quiet beach with soft, light colors. The sand is pale and smooth, meeting a strip of grass and wildflowers near the water’s edge. The sea is a deep blue, fading to a lighter sky in the distance. A small patch of rocks sits near the grass, and the whole scene looks calm and still. The brushstrokes are thick and textured, especially on the sand and water, giving it a rough, almost tactile feel. This technique is called *impasto*—where paint is laid on thickly so you can almost see the strokes. Look up impasto to see how other artists used this same bold brushwork.
