Studio 6/6

Studio 6/6 is an art space, gallery, and independent cultural venue in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Co-founded in 2015 by Bangladeshi artist-printmaker Najib Tareque, Farhana Afroz Bappy, and multilateral artist Taiara Farhana Tareque, it operates from the Mohammadpur Thana neighborhood. Under the impetus of Taiara Farhana Tareque, the operation expanded beyond a family atelier to represent and exhibit other artists. During the first COVID-19 lockdown, the studio invited artists to reside for a month-long confinement, producing work that was subsequently exhibited. The venue also established regular programming including art talks and discussion groups led by Najib Tareque, known as Shilpo Adda, as well as annual Art Makes Us Human events that draw noted artists from across Bangladesh.

The studio does not function as a traditional collecting institution but rather as an exhibition and production space with a community-oriented mandate. Its programming spans multiple disciplines, including visual arts, design, music, writing, and performance. Since its opening, it has hosted numerous exhibitions, workshops, and events featuring artists, designers, and musicians. Rather than maintaining a permanent collection, Studio 6/6 is distinguished by its exhibition history and hosted projects. Its inaugural exhibition in 2015, Arts Makes Us Human by Najib Tareque, established the pattern of artist-centered presentation. The COVID-19 residency project yielded a body of work created under lockdown conditions and subsequently exhibited. The annual Art Makes Us Human events and the Shilpo Adda discussion series have become signature programs that attract established figures in Bangladeshi art.
