Kano Genshun 狩野元俊

Kano Genshun was a Japanese painter of the early Edo period and a member of the Kano school, the hereditary painting lineage that dominated Japanese art from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century. He served as the first head of the minor Yamashita branch of the Kano family and was also known by the name Hayato. Working in ink and color, he treated traditional Kano subjects including Zen figures and birds and flowers.

A surviving work, Bodhidharma Crossing the Yangzi River on a Reed, uses the abbreviated, few-stroke ink manner derived from Chinese Chan painting.
