Kingdom of Denmark, 1864–1916

Vilhelm Hammershøi was a Kingdom of Denmark Impressionism painter. 50 works are cataloged here, principally at Statens Museum for Kunst, most of them oil paintings. Vilhelm Hammershøi was born in Copenhagen.

Vilhelm Hammershøi (), often anglicised as Vilhelm Hammershoi (15 May 1864 – 13 February 1916), was a Danish painter. He is known for his poetic, subdued portraits and interiors. In 1905, Rainer Maria Rilke wrote of the artist, "Hammershøi is not one of those about whom one can speak quickly.

His work is wide-ranging and slow, and at whatever moment one comprehends it, it will always provide an opportunity to talk about what is important and essential in art".
