Artist

Wei Sheng

Wei Sheng is a Song dynasty landscape artist. 1 work is cataloged here, principally at National Palace Museum.

Wei Sheng carried a bamboo brush like a traveler’s walking stick, sketching wherever he stopped, tea houses, temple steps, the bark of a crape myrtle in full bloom. He never signed his work, but the habit of leaving a single red seal in the corner became his trademark. His 1234 sketch Crape Myrtle Sketched from Life proves you don’t need expensive paper or a studio to make art that lasts.
