Sunset at Pont Marie is a 1890 by Auguste Lepère, a Impressionism work, held at Cleveland Museum of Art.
This sketch shows a bridge over water at dusk. The bridge has three arches, and the water below looks choppy. Trees and buildings sit on the far bank, drawn in quick, loose lines. The sky is mostly blank, with just a few strokes suggesting fading light. The artist focused on shapes and shadows more than details. Louis-Auguste Lepère (30 November 1849 – 20 November 1918) was a French painter and etcher. Lepère is also considered a leader in the creative revival of wood engraving in Europe.
