This is a black-and-white engraving of a bearded man sitting in a chair. Around him are Latin words on a banner: *"Statis Vitae"* and *"Death Cum Vita."* The man holds a scroll with more writing, and his head is framed by a crown of leaves and flowers. Below, a border shows three small figures with wings, each holding a different object. The date "1562" is carved into the top of the chair, matching the year this was made. The text at the bottom says it was printed by John Day in London. Next, look up engraving to see how artists like this carved images into metal.
