Guy Little Theatrical Photograph is a 1850 photographic by Boning & Small, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This photo shows Alice Leamar dressed for a role. It was taken by Boning & Small back in the late 1800s or early 1900s. The museum says it’s a theatrical shot. Back then, actors paid for studio photos to sell to fans. These prints came on stiff cards with the photographer’s name printed below. Check out the Victoria and Albert Museum to see more.
This albumen print shows Alice Leamar posed in character, produced as a carte de visite by Boning & Small in the mid-19th century. The image was mounted on card bearing the photographer’s imprint and collected by Guy Tristram Little, whose theatrical photographs were later donated to the Victoria and Albert Museum. Cartes de visite like this one were small portrait cards popular in the 1860s before being replaced by larger cabinet cards in the late 1870s. The photograph forms part of a larger albumen print collection removed from its backing and preserved in an album.
