Tombeau de Marguerite de Bourbon. Église de Brou (Tomb of Marguerite de Bourbon, Church at Brou) is a 1825 ink by Richard Parkes Bonington, a Romanticism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This drawing shows a dark, ornate tomb inside a church. Two people in long robes stand at the front, looking at a carved sarcophagus. Above it, fancy ironwork and statues line the walls, and a small window lets in dim light. The tomb’s carvings include religious figures and twisted metal designs, making it look heavy and grand. The artist used shading to show depth, even though it’s all in black and white. Next, check out lithography to see how this print was made.
