Violet (Viola odorata)

Pierre Bulliard

1788

From the collection of Victoria and Albert Museum

About this work

This is a print of a violet from Bulliard’s *Herbier de la France*. It’s one of more than 600 botanical plates he made between 1780 and 1795 in Paris. Bulliard did it all himself—he drew, engraved, and printed each sheet with three colored layers over black outlines. Check out the Victoria and Albert Museum to see more plates from the Herbier.
