The Lyon Lizard (Lacerta 6-lineata) is a 1737 ink by Mark Catesby, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This image shows a plant with long, pointed leaves and a thick stem. A lizard is perched on one of the lower branches, facing left. The roots are visible at the bottom, and the plant has small flowers at the top. The colors are mostly green and brown, with some yellow in the flowers. The artist included both the plant and the lizard in one scene, which was unusual for scientific illustrations at the time. This was part of a book meant to document nature.
