Redcar is a 1911 by Charles Sykes, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This sketch shows a sandy beach with a mix of old and new. In the front, a car with big wheels sits next to a wagon. Behind it, a crowd of people and more wagons line up near buildings and trees. Flags wave above the crowd, and the whole scene feels busy but loose. The artist used quick, sketchy lines to show movement and light. The beach looks dusty, and the colors are muted except for the bright flags. It’s like a snapshot of a moment, not every detail. Want to see more by this artist? Check out Charles Sykes.
