Design for page ornament made for the Curwen Press is a 1950 by Claud Lovat Fraser, held at Victoria and Albert Museum.
This drawing shows two simple black shapes on a light background. The top shape looks like a crouching animal, maybe a cat or dog, with a round eye and a tail curled up. Below it is a rough face with big, blank eyes and a wide mouth, almost like a mask. The artist used only thick black lines to create these shapes, with no shading or color. It’s like a sketch for a book page, not a finished picture. Check out the Victoria and Albert Museum to see more works like this.
A seated figure is drawn above a head in this 1950 design for a page ornament created for the Curwen Press by Claud Lovat.
