The Baptism of Christ is a 1584 ink by Adriaen Collaert, a Renaissance work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This picture shows a busy scene with people by a river. One man stands in the water holding a staff. A woman in robes points upward. Kids and adults gather on the bank. Behind them, a town sits on a hill with towers and spires. The border is packed with tiny animals and flowers. The whole thing looks like it was scratched into the paper with sharp tools.
