The work has been part of the Gemäldegalerie of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna since at least 1781. It appeared in early museum catalogs with varying attributions, listed as Ambergerth in 1783 and later as French School around 1530 in 1928, before being correctly attributed to Corneille de Lyon in the 1963 catalog.

The portrait was exhibited in 1915 and was also included in the exhibition Lyon Renaissance. Arts et humanisme.

The painting is held in the collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. Historical records indicate the work has been associated with the museum's Gemäldegalerie since at least 1781, appearing in Christian von Meschel's 1783 catalog as number 43. Over subsequent decades, its inventory number changed, appearing as number 1519 in E. von Engerth's 1882–1886 catalog, number 571 a in the 1928 and 1938 editions, and number 98 in the 1963 catalog.

The work was exhibited in 1915 at the Gemäldegalerie and later featured in the exhibition titled "Lyon Renaissance. Arts et humanisme."
