This engraving shows a night scene with a baby in a manger. Around them, shepherds kneel, some holding staffs. Two women in headscarves stand on the sides, looking down. A small town burns in the background, with people running. The artist used tiny lines to build up shadows and textures. This is called cross-hatching. It makes the scene look almost 3D. Look up cross-hatching to see how it works.
