Cartouche with Rams and Infant Satyrs is a 1647 ink by Stefano Della Bella, a Baroque work, held at Rijksmuseum.
This image shows two chubby, winged babies holding up a rounded frame. Their faces are round, with soft curls and tiny smiles. The frame they’re supporting looks like a shield or a decorative border, with a smooth top and swirling lines below. The babies’ wings are detailed with feathers that look almost like fabric folds. Their arms are bent, and their hands meet in the center, as if they’re gently holding the frame together. This is an example of the technique: etching.
Stefano della Bella (18 May 1610 – 12 July 1664) was an Italian draughtsman and printmaker known for etchings of a great variety of subjects, including military and court scenes, landscapes, and lively genre scenes.
