Farm with Shed and Draw Well is a 1560 ink by Lucas van Doetechum, a Baroque work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This black-and-white print shows a quiet farm scene. Two small houses with thatched roofs sit by a dirt path, surrounded by bare trees and bushes. A well with a rope and bucket is in the middle, and a few people walk nearby—one carrying a basket. The ground looks muddy, and the sky is faint but visible above the trees. The artist used lines to create depth, making the trees and buildings stand out. This print was made by pressing ink into metal plates, a technique called etching. Next, look up etching to see how artists like this made detailed prints.
Lucas van Doetechum (1501–1579) was an artist, born in Deventer.
