About this work

This painting shows a woman in a red robe and a gold headpiece, holding a scroll. She is sitting and looking up to the left. The woman's clothing is richly detailed, with intricate folds and textures. The background is dark, with a small patch of blue sky visible at the top. The painting is a great example of the artist's skill with light and shadow, particularly in the way the woman's face and hands are illuminated. If you're interested in learning more about this style, you might want to look up the technique of chiaroscuro.
