Riva Delgi Schiavoni, No. 1 is a 1880 ink by Frank Duveneck, a Impressionism work, held at National Gallery of Art.
This sketch shows a busy waterfront with lots of people walking and standing around. Tall ships with masts fill the harbor, and buildings line the shore. The artist used quick, sketchy lines to show movement and activity. Notice how the artist captured the texture of the wood docks and the rough edges of the buildings. This style fits with how artists in the late 1800s often worked quickly to show real-life scenes. Look up etching next to see how this technique works.
Frank Duveneck (1848–1919) was an American artist, born in Covington.
